The chosen

Category: Poetry
Many bridegrooms hurry tot he girl-dawn
From a foreign land overseas.
All are clad in brocade and satin, and with a load of gifts
Their gold ships are filled.
This one's brought pearls, the other — a priceless diamond.
Who is your chosen one, beauty?
Each on hears a firm denial
And sails off home ни с чем.
But among them once came a poet
And brought her his heart,
Only his heart, where there are songs, and a flame and light...
Here is her happy chosen!
